As fellow sim-racers, I'm sure everyone would agree that the one thing we're always looking for is a way to lower our lap-times...to become faster around a given track than our competition.
Now, I don't know about you, but one of the first ways I started lowering my own track times was when I graduated from hooking my wheel to my computer desk and sitting in my up-right computer chair to an actual racing cockpit with a real world race seat!
Talk about an 'ah-ha moment'!
Talk about an 'ah-ha moment'!
My times started to improve almost instantly...of course, once I finally fine-tuned the endless adjustments to both my seat position, wheel height and pedal position!
I actually thought I was sitting in a real race-car...minus the six-figure investment and pit-crew of course! LOL!
The sim racing cockpit I went with at that time, and we're talking almost 10-years ago, was the BRD (Ball Racing Development) Race Frame Pro.
Granted, before I purchased this particular sim-rig, I did my homework and got as much information about the available racing simulators on the market before I pulled the trigger on purchasing my race frame pro.
I'll admit, one of the selling points on buying that particular rig was the fact that the company (BRD), which was based in England, actually had a U.S. distributor, (Trinity Racing ~ www.trinity-racing.com) which was just a few miles from where I lived in the Silicon Valley and that allowed me to go 'test drive' the RFP before buying.
After about an hour of test driving a few different games, as well as seat options, I pulled the trigger and even though the cost was a tad high at the time...just over $1,000..+/-...and I found a few 'cons' regarding the then wheel/pedal unit I had (Frex modded DFP w/ECCI Trackstar 6000 pedals), I never looked back and over the years, my fascination regarding the various types of racing cockpits has only grown and it's only now that I feel the urge to want to talk about the topic in great detail!
Hence this blog!
Over the coming weeks, I'm going to do my best to help those who are interested in expanding their own sim racing experience even further by going the route of using a sim racing cockpit by offering my own personal insights into each and every simrig on the market that I can find and offering advice on whether or not it's the one FOR YOU!
Thanks for visiting and hopefully if you're in the market for a new racing cockpit, you'll use my blog as either a starting point, or a valid point-of-reference BEFORE deciding on a particular simrig!
